Preparing for more rains

The Meteorological Office warned of heavy thunder showers, street and flash flooding and even landslides as a tropical wave passes near the island during the next four to six hours.

The Met Office warned people to be vigilant given that rivers remain swollen from the weekend rains that caused widespread damage estimated at TT$109 million, in the west of the island.

Two people were killed when landslides buried their homes and many residents in the west were still digging out mud from their properties and disaster relief agencies said that shelters were open to accommodate people still affected by the weather.

Chairman of the Diego Martin Regional Corporation, Anthony Sammy, told reporters that the estimates of the damage would increase as assessments continue over the next few days.
