(Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 13, 2021):
If you are between the ages 5 to 12, the Ministry of Agriculture wants you to use your imagination to create a poster showing a food journey as part of its World Food Day 2021 Poster competition.
In an interview with the Ministry’s Media and Communication Unit, Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources, Kyle Flanders encouraged all primary school students to participate in the contest which is based on this year’s theme, “Our Actions Are Our Future – Better production, Better Nutrition, A Better Environment & A Better Life”.
“The poster should depict a journey that your food goes on from start to finish, right down until it reaches your plate. So, we are looking for our primary school students to bring forth their artistic talent with this poster competition. The rules and guidelines are outlined on our Facebook page (you can always check out our Facebook page, the Ministry of Agriculture, and you can find the rules right there. Also it was submitted to the Ministry of Education because we are partnering with them in this endeavor. It was submitted to them so you can go to your office and get a printout of the rules and regulations that governs the poster competition”, he said.
Assistant Secretary Flanders also explained that the poster can be submitted at multiple locations.
“You have a variety of ways that you can submit your posters, you can either drop them off at [Ministry of Agriculture] Government Headquarters, you can drop them off at [Department of Marine Resources] DMR or drop them off at the Department of Agriculture and we will make sure that they get to the final judging. They can also be emailed to us and the email address again can be found on our Facebook page. Make sure the poster depicts a proper journey that food takes from seed to your plate, make sure you try and depict a more sustainable way of producing food because as we know that’s the future we going to”, Flanders added.
Parents and teachers are asked to assist the young students as they use their innovative ideas to create their individual posters. Designs can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also call the Ministry of Agriculture at 467-1016 for further information.
The submission deadline is Monday 18th October at 11:59 pm.
