Prince Harry Sets First Post-Naked Photo Scandal Public Appearance for a Very Good Cause

While he could easily be excused for keeping a low profile for the next, oh, two decades or so, the scandal-plagued royalis manning up and braving the press, and has wasted no time in setting his first public appearance in the wake of the leaking of his naked Las Vegas photos.

As for what could possibly have drawn the headline-grabbing prince out of hiding? Well, kids. And a very good cause.

Reminding us of why he’s so publicly beloved in the first place, it was confirmed this morning that Prince Harry will be attending the WellChild Awards ceremony in London on Sept. 3.

Harry has long been a patron of the charity organization, which aims to ensure the best quality of care for seriously ill children in the U.K. St. James’s Palace also announced this morning that the prince won’t simply be attending the eighth annual awards do, but will also be presenting an award, for Most Inspirational Child, and will deliver the closing speech of the ceremony.

Meanwhile, Harry’s do-good nature was also on full display last night, when the slightly ill-timed (or, actually, maybe spectacularly timed) special, Harry’s Mountain Heroes, aired on British TV.

Obviously scheduled prior to the spare heir’s quest to put the sin into Sin City, the program featured Harry in his role as  as he accompanied five injured soldiers at the start of their journey to climb Mt. Everest.

“What these guys are proving, is that no matter what your injury, no matter whether you’re military or civilian, you can overcome injuries,” he said on the show. “There isn’t a soldier, injured in some way, that I wouldn’t want to be like.”

Well, if it’s the challenge of overcoming personal obstacles he was after, we think he got his wish.
