Rastas March against Discrimination

Though disappointed that they were not allowed to march in front of Government headquarters, they took the modified route approved by the local police authorities.

This route took them from the Springfield Cemetery in West Basseterre, ending on West Independence Square, in the downtown centre of the capital, Basseterre. A rally was planned for later Friday afternoon.rastas

The Rastafarians said they were marching against a number of issues which included, being targeted by police and being ignored by politicians when policies and programs are being formulated and when there is a need to address matters that affect the practice of their religion.

They have also demanded that consideration be given to the criminalization of marijuana, which they argue is a feature of their faith.

The turnout for the march was however small, but those who were in attendance were very much vibrant in their chanting and singing of the song “By the Rivers of Babylon” drawing attention from a number of residents, workers and passers-by in the area.rassta
