REDjet pause

The Barbados-based airline, which started business last May, issued a statement shortly before 8 o’clock last night declaring it had no choice but to suspend flights “from 11:59 p.m. until further notice” because of financial problems and the need for Government assistance.

And last night in the House of Assembly, Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy described REDjet as a good initiative and wished it a speedy resumption.

In its statement, the airline officially known as Airone Caribbean/Airone Ventures Limited owned by Irish father and son Ian and Robbie Burns said: “We are willing and able to continue to provide affordable transport across the Caribbean and beyond, but we cannot. Unlike the heavily subsidised airlines that serve the region, REDjet does not receive any assistance.
