Regional Governments called on to Support LIAT

Spencer who was at the time speaking to the media after a LIAT shareholders meeting in Kingstown, St Vincent stressed that his country is totally committed to the survival of LIAT. He described the carrier as a very important institutional mechanism for the integration process, even though in some cases it is simply not profitable.

Spencer said that the future of LIAT is dependent on the region’s ability to renew its fleet, expand its operation and to provide guarantees to the region.

“We are of the view that LIAT has the capacity to do that. We have to rebrand, we have to take a number of very important decisions and we began the progress on Wednesday of looking at a number of things. We want to arrive at a situation where LIAT can and will operate as a successful commercial entity,” he said.
