ROC ambassador presents donation to Education ministry

The donation was facilitated through the Embassy, while the educational and recreational supplies and clothing were donated by SimplyHelp Foundation of Los Angeles, California.

SimplyHelp is a non-profit organization, dedicated to the empowerment of disadvantaged persons by providing job skill training, homes for the homeless elderly, and disaster relief in over twenty countries in the Caribbean and around the world.

Addressing staff and children present, Minister Richards said, “This very generous donation was initiated by His Excellency, Ambassador Chiou and Mr. Daniel Kuo (First Secretary at the Taiwan Technical Mission). With this donation, SimplyHelp will definitely “change lives, one heart at a time… Thank you, Ambassador Chiou, for your thoughtfulness and consideration. Thank you, too, Mr. Kuo, for ensuring that the container arrived at its intended destination.”

The minister continued, “The Ministry records its appreciation for the wonderful partnership between the Republic of China, Taiwan, and the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis over the past thirty years. It is my distinct pleasure to accept the items on behalf of the Ministry of Education.”

Education Permanent Secretary Ionie Liburd-Willett explained the background behind the donation. She said, “A few months ago, Mr. Kuo visited me in my office and shared that having been on the island for a short time and interacting with the locals, Ambassador Chiou saw a need to be filled. He informed me that a container of supplies would soon be on its way to St. Kitts and Nevis. This announcement did not come as a surprise to me because the Republic of China, Taiwan, is known for its provision of humanitarian aid and sharing of its unique culture.”

The supplies include new men’s boots, garment bags, women and children shoes, children’s clothes, a variety of toys, luggage bags, pens and soccer balls; as well as manipulatives, toys and games specifically for the youngest learners.
