On 7th December 2010, MiyVue.com took note of the document which was disseminated on the SKNList which was written on the official government letterhead, addressed to the Prime Minister Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.
The letter surfaces after rumours of recent discord between the Prime Minister and his deputy began flowing.
The correspondence which has as its sender, “Deputy Prime Minister”, is dated 25th November, 2010.
The document spells out the sender’s feelings about the Prime Minister’s attitude towards his (the sender) capabilities of effectively and efficiently executing his duties.
The first paragraph of the documents reads, “Sadly, I write to you following our discussions last evening, which for most part was a sad reflection of the disregard and disrespect you continue to demonstrate regarding my ability to make fundamental decisions in my various Ministries.”
It continues, “I find it necessary to point out that I am in fact, a mature, experienced, educated, Senior Minister of Government; Deputy Leader of our Great Labour Party and a well respected member of Society, who have held and still hold responsibility for major Portfolios of Government. It is my view that and from all accounts, I have at all times demonstrated a high level of competence and leadership, which in truth, has the approval of the overall society.”
In providing an example of the “autocratic matter” in which the Prime Minister seeks to impose his “choices and dictates”, the author of the letter noted that the PM is insistent that a particular individual takes up employment in his (the sender’s) ministries, despite his insistence that he does not want said individual to work in his ministries.
“If your repeated reference to the fact that you are the Prime Minister, is meant to convey your belief that you have a divine right to dictate to your Ministers, then I must say to you that you are in my view and study, totally misguided; and further, that this attitude does not auger well for good relations,” the letter explains.
The correspondence further indicates that “there is another fundamental truth that the society understands about me; and that is, that I have humbly served my Country and Countrymen in a fair, loyal, credible, trustworthy and dedicated manner at all times and in all situations. I intend to continue to do just that”.
“With respect”, the letter concludes, and bears what appears to be the signature of Sam Condor, Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of the St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party.
Attempts were made by MiyVue.com attempts to contact Deputy Prime Minister Condor concerning the circulation to this document but efforts were futile.
