Sammy disappointed but not surprised at sacking

Sammy has also been dropped as a player.

“I am not really surprised because I know how these guys operate; you know if you look at their history … when people speak the truth it’s always like that,” the former Captain told SportsMax in an interview Friday evening.

Sammy led the West Indies to T20 victory in Sri Lanka four years ago and again earlier this year in India .

But there were obvious signs of the strains between him and the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) when he used his presentation speech to attack his employers over a lack of support.

Sammy told SportsMax that when he spoke the truth at the finals, he had pointedly said he realized it was the last time he would be playing with the team.

“It is because of what I said at the end of the World Cup – that’s it,” he declared in the interview.

He asserted that he is a firm believer in God, noting that every time adversity has arisen, he has risen above it.

Sammy declared that he has always played with pride and passion, not letting the opinions of others dictate the way he goes about doing his job.

He would not be drawn into speculating on who would be his replacement, saying he would give the WIBC a chance to make a public announcement.

Sammy revealed that he would be focusing on the Darren Sammy Foundation, starting at home and, with the support of well-wishers, extending the initiative to young people of the Caribbean to develop future champions and leaders.
