Security forces praised for drop in murder rate

Basseterre, St. Kitts, 17th January, 2019 ( – The National Security Minister has commended the security forces, along with the Regional Security System (RSS), for keeping the homicide rate in check.

Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris, who is also the Minister of National Security, said on Wednesday, 17th January, that the extra boots on the ground, by way of the RSS, has helped to reduce the homicide rate, between the period 6th October, 2018, to the present.

Speaking of the good that the RSS has been able to do with local security forces, the Prime Minister was particularly please given the fact that St. Kitts & Nevis is up-to-date with its membership dues.

Prime Minister Harris said, “The RSS is a critical asset available to all RSS Member States. We are the only country in the sub-region that is regular in our payments to the RSS.  In fact, over the last 4 years we have contributed $7.4 million in membership dues to the RSS. This is our contribution to the preservation of regional security.”

Harris continued, “Our citizens, residents and visitors are deeply appreciative of the work of our law enforcement officers, and I encourage our Security Officers to exhibit utmost professionalism when serving and protecting our people.”
