Security measures could impact travellers in Eastern Caribbean

LIAT’s head of corporate communications, Desmond Brown, issued an alert Friday afternoon informing that delays originating at Trinidad’s Piarco International Airport would have a ripple effect throughout their route system.

The potential lengthy delays will come as a result of  “extensive airport authority security checks introduced at Piarco International Airport”, Brown indicated. The LIAT communications did not specify what the airport security issues are, but the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago at Piarco airport has on a page of its website the following message.

“Our security officers are working to keep bombs off of airplanes. Please follow their directions. Belligerent behavior, inappropriate jokes and threats will not be tolerated, and will result in delays and possibly missed flights,” a section of the page states.

LIAT wants its customers flying out of Piarco to leave their homes extra early to accommodate being in long lines leading into the security areas.
