The Green Valley Queen Pageant was held at Maynard’s Park, Cayon, where five “Cayonites” – Cherane Fyfield, Shadia Dore, Micayan Dore, Lynnika Small and Latoya Caesar vied to be named the 15th annual Miss Green Valley Queen.
The ladies made a total of five appearances: Fanfare, Opening Speech Talent, Freaky Segment and the African Wear segments, all of which, except the Fanfare and Freaky segment were judged.
The talent segment featured a variety of art forms including singing, steel pan playing, drama, dance as the contestants sought to grab hold of the top position in the competition while providing entertainment for the Maynard’s Park audience.
The “Freaky Segment” was also a segment of note where all contestants appeared on stage in what can be termed as colourful and playful outfits which were complemented by their playful struts and movements across the length and width of the stage.
The beauties’ appearances were capped with the African Wear segment which featured exquisitely-designed dresses, displaying influences of African heritage with modern twists. All dresses were accented with and complemented by matching head wear with the entire ensembles were completed with matching accessories.
The crowd’s favourite seemed to have been Shadia Dore and while some were not necessarily pleased with the results of the pageant, the judges’ decision was final.
The panel of judges comprised of Lesroy Williams, Vaple Burt, Vince Gumbs, Winifred Weekes and Jennifer Belle and according to their tabulation of the points, Shadia Dore won the Best Talent and Best African Wear segments while the Best Promotional Speech Segment was won by Lynnika Small.
Caesar captured the Second Runner-Up spot with the First Runner-Up position going to Small, while Shadia Dore was crowned Queen.
In an interview with MiyVue.com, Queen Dore said her journey to success was long and difficult and there were times that she felt like giving up. She however thanked her chaperon “Janelle”, for being that constant burst of motivation that she needed to endure.
Mother of the Queen, Stacey Govia, said she feel “really really good and really really happy” with her daughter’s success and noted that she never doubted that she could win the crown.
Dore’s coronation was done by Miss Green Valley 2010/2011, Ivanka James.
