The latest haul of such weapons of human destruction was achieved on Monday, (29th November), when police officers from the Special Services Unit and the Anti-Gang Unit executed a search warrant on the premises of Sherlon Cannonier at Neverson Street East, Newtown and found one (1) Keltec 9mm pistol, with eleven (11) 9mm rounds of ammunition and one (1) M-16 round of ammunition.
According to police reports, the operations were carried out around 1:45pm, following which the firearms and ammunition were taken into police custody for further analysis
Police also found five (5) men at the said premises with Sherlon Cannonier and as a result have formally arrested and charged the six (6) men jointly for possession of firearm and ammunition.
The six persons charged were Glenis Lewis, 21 years old of Lower Market Street; Sherlon Cannonier, 27 years old of Neverson Street East, Newtown; Ishawn Wilkes, 24 years old of Neverson Street East, Newtown; Jamal Parris, 23 years old of New Road Housing; Kareem Jeffers, 17 years old of Thomas Street, Ponds Pasture; and Ricardo Claxton, 21 years old of Freeman’s Village
The find brings the total number of illegal firearms to be taken into police custody for the year 2010 to 41.
Investigations are still ongoing.
As part of the ongoing efforts to crack down on illegal firearms and its related crimes, the police have vowed to continue their anti-crime campaign.
