Maritza Dias – Manager, Stewart Joseph – Head Coach, Johnny Heylier – Throws Coach and Llewellyn Pyke – Jumps Coach also travelled to Tortola.
A number of the athletes after competing at this event have attained qualifying performances for the Pan American Junior Athletic Championships scheduled for Columbia in August 2013.
The athletes include: –
Nathaniel Huggins – Gold in the Long Jump event (7.14 m)
J’anthon Sillidy – Gold in Javelin Throw (57.74 m)
Rico Gumbs – Gold in 200m (21.43)
Ka’jon Parris – Gold in the 800m (1. 57.17)
Kristal Liburd – Gold in the Long Jump (5.96) meters
Male 4 x 100m relay team – Gold in 41.52 seconds (Pan Am Juniors ‘B’ qualifying performance)
Krystal Liburd’s jump, now lands her amongst the ‘A’ qualifiers (Pan Am Juniors) while the others whose performances have also improved, achieved the ‘B’ qualifying performances in their respective events.
There were also commendable performances by Stavia Lewis who won the women’s discus, Warren Hazel – placing 2nd in his 400m race and Keishonna Brookes was 3rd in the women’s 400m hurdles. The team of Elliott, Eddy, Brookes and Liburd gained the 3rd spot in the 4 x 100m women’ relay and the men’s 4 x 100m relay team (Tyson, Wilkenson, Hazel and Gumbs) won gold. The team of Wilkenson, Hazel, Tyson and Parris participated in the 4x400m relay and placed second. The 200m winner Rico Gumbs was also able to capture the 3rd spot in the 100m.
