Officials from the St. Kitts Amateur Basketball Association, SKABA, have indicated that a comprehensive evaluation or review of last year’s competitions, will occupy much of the discussions. Delegates will also seek to establish the timetable for the start of the 2012 league.
It is the hope of SKABA to commence the season on 25th February, with the Junior Division, while 26th March is being eyed as a possible start time for the Official Opening of the senior divisions.
An official has confirmed that among the new initiatives for this year, is the hosting of official matches at venues in Nevis, involving teams from St. Kitts and those located on the sister island. Previously all official SKABA tournament matches were played only at venues in Basseterre, St. Kitts. Similarly, games are being considered for Molineux, Cayon and Sandy Point, adding to the new venues recently introduced at Bird Rock and Challengers; as the association shifts its concentration from the centralization of matches only at Basketball City on Victoria Road.
If this new measure is accomplished, this could very well help to boost the sport of basketball on Nevis and in the rural areas, and possibly leading to the creation of even more clubs from those centres.
The 2011 season was described by SKABA officials as very successful, though there were initial setbacks.
The 2011 Premier Division Champions were Ghaut Bucs.
