SKNFA president wants public to come out and support “Sugar Boys” in next week’s big football clash with El Salvador

Johnson made the comment at the end of a detailed planning meeting held Thursday (June 4) at Football House, Lozack Road.

Johnson disclosed, “Our organization, as far as the preparation of the team leading up to the game, the squad is now in Mexico at a very high performance center, preparing in a camp style situation, and they are expected to return to the federation Sunday coming,” The team has spent the past several weeks training at the Universidad del Futbol in Mexico.

The SKNFA president said there has been good cooperation across the board, and he is looking forward to a great game, with all necessities in place.

“I can assure the public that security is a top priority for us. You can come to the game feeling assured that you will be in a safe environment, but at the same time a very passionate environment, an environment that will be exciting. We expect the public to come out and support St. Kitts-Nevis with their national flags, in their national colours and be exuberant,” said Johnson, who wants the public “to be that 12th man”.

Johnson holds the view that the match between SKN and El Salvador is a major match-up, as the teams vie for a place in the next World Cup. Over the last six games that the St. Kitts and Nevis team has played, only one was lost. It lost to a Barbados team, which only a few weeks ago, the SKN team turned around and defeated.

National-TeamAccording to Johnson, “Our performance going into this game is pretty commendable, however, we know that El Salvador is ranked 84th in the FIFA ranking right now, and they are a team that has made the World Cup on a couple of occasions in the past. Playing against them will be no easy feat. But, we believe that we have the raw talent and an organized group of individuals who will be ready to take on El Salvador and win.”

A Brazilian global media operator, Traffic Sports, will be in St. Kitts to cover the game for its international audiences. Traffic Sports holds select exclusive commercial rights to the following premier properties: Copa América, CONCACAF Gold Cup, Copa Libertadores, CONCACAF Champions League, CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers, Copa do Brasil and the North American Soccer League (NASL).

The SKNFA president said, “It is an excellent opportunity to market, not just St. Kitts and Nevis football, but the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis in general, because the game would be covered by Traffic Sports and be available throughout the world, certainly, throughout the CONCACAF region.”

He thanked SKNFA’s partners, including the Governments of the Republic of China and of St. Kitts and Nevis for their assistance in providing additional lighting at the Warner Park venue, the corporate sponsors, volunteers, the media houses, the general public and the staff of the SKNFA.
