Island Bakery Fort Street Deli Robbed

Island Bakeries’ proprietor, Mr. Franklyn Brand, in an exclusive interview with MiyVue.com, explained that at about 2:00 a.m., he received a call from the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force indicating that the deli was broken into.

He explained that two cases of Heineken drinks and one case of Red Bull, along with an assortment of other items, were removed from the deli by the brigand(s). He said, from what he observed following the incident, “they tried to search the place but I guess they didn’t have enough time.”

Brand told this publication that the outlet is fitted with an alarm which was triggered when the individual(s) entered the premises.

Notwithstanding the incident, workers arrived for work at the establishment and according to Brand, his first priority at this point would be ensuring that his workers are safe.

“I would imagine that they are concerned…Island Bakery has been robbed several times. Right now I don’t know what to do next. I guess everybody would be concerned about safety…The first think I am going to do is consult with the security people. I need to deal internally to make sure our workers are safe. That is foremost in my mind, but I have to wait until a little later this morning and speak to them…

“But clearly this is a serious issue. We spend a lot of money on security but this is something that keeps recurring. The security persons are doing a good job of deterring these persons but you can never be 100 percent sure. I am going to discuss whatever else I can do with security people about what can be done. Maybe we can look at things like video surveillance. I will have to discuss the options with them.”

Brand indicated that he would also be discussing the matter with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (CIC).

MiyVue.com made contact with the police force’s Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Vaughan Henderson to enquire about the incident and whether or not persons have been held in connection with it, and he indicated that he had no information on the incident and that, following the meeting to which he was heading, information would be released to the media.
