For the first time in the carnival’s 40 year history, 12 Groovy and 16 Power Soca Monarch Semi-finalists will compete in the Beaumont Park Soca Monarch Semi-Finals, which will be staged on Friday 2nd December, at Carnival Village.
Each will be vying for a place in the Finals of the contest.
After the final scores are tallied, on Friday, 8 Groovy artists will be selected and 8 Power Semi-finalists will be selected to challenge the reigning Soca Monarch, King Konris.
Apart from those Finalists selected by the judges, on the night of the Semi-finals, 1 additional Power finalist will be selected, based on a text to vote promotion, to be launched at the end of the Semi-finals. This text to vote promotion will run until the 9th December and fans will have the opportunity to text the name of their favourite Power Semi-finalist, not selected by judges, for the Soca Monarch Finals.
According to the Chairperson of the Soca Monarch Sub-Committee, Mr. Dwayne Sturge, “The Committee is greatly satisfied with the quality of songs and the excitement surrounding the Semi-finals”.
He further encouraged fans to go out in their numbers with rags and flags to support all of the artistes who have worked very hard to produce top quality music. Performances by the “Iron Band” and various DJ’s will also add to the overall exhilarating party atmosphere of the Semi-finals.
The Beaumont Park Soca Monarch Semi-finals is scheduled to be held on Friday 2nd December at 8:00pm in Carnival Village.
