Solozano, who was named on the regional 15-man squad, leaves today to join his teammates for a camp in Barbados ahead of their January 27 departure for the tournament which starts on February 14.

The team will be captained by Jamaican Ramaal Lewis and also includes Tagenarine Chanderpaul (Guyana), vice-captain Nicholas Pooran and Bryan Charles (TT).

“We have a very good team going to the World Cup. Everybody knows their role. I think we can win the World Cup, that is our goal. We want to win,” he declared.

Solozano explained that he always dreamed of being named on a World Cup team and he feels proud that it has been fulfilled.

“My goal since I was 15-years-old was to make a World Cup team and I have achieved that. It’s a good feeling (to make the team). Thanks to God for blessing me with this opportunity,” he continued.

The left-hander said he was not surprised by his selection on the team as he had an excellent regional season with the TT Under-19s where he finished top scorer in the three-day and 50 overs competitions.

He scored 334 runs at an average of 41.57 in the three-day tournament and was even more prolific in the 50 overs format with 257 runs at an average of 51.40.

Asked about his personal goals for the World Cup, Solozano noted that he is simply looking to do his job to help contribute to the team’s chances of success.

“I want to do my best, bat and make runs. The experience there will carry me a long way. I’ve been training hard with the senior four-day team and doing my personal training as well. I just want to play at my best,” he concluded.
