Following a survey conducted by US News Travel, the twin island destination was selected for the Number 3 spot for Best Islands in the World. Maldives in the Indian Ocean and Bora Bora in the South Pacific were chosen as number 1 and 2 respectively.
Those beaten by St. Kitts and Nevis included Santorini, Seychelles, Fiji, Maui, Cayman Islands, St. Martin and the US Virgin Islands.
According to US News Travel, its readers considered features about an island that immediately invokes a daydream. They concluded that it should have a feeling of seclusion, and also sprawling beaches, with rolling waves and untouched pockets of wilderness. For an island to be considered one of the “best’ it must have that je ne sais quoi-that magical spark, said the publication. The islands that were voted in the top tier therefore were considered to have a little extra something that keeps travellers enchanted.
In addition to being voted Number 3 in the world for island vacations, St. Kitts and Nevis also emerged #2 in Best Caribbean Vacations, only being beaten by St. Martin.
Readers also voted the federation #5 in Best Affordable Caribbean Destinations, with Punta Cana Number1, followed by Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Puerto Plata, (St. Kitts and Nevis #5), Dominica, Trinidad, Bahamas, Cayman Islands and Antigua in the number 10 spot.
According to US News Travel, “It’s no wonder that these two islands attract celebs in droves. Who wouldn’t want to spend their vacation sprawled across golden-brown sands, exploring ancient fortresses, or noshing on fried conch? St. Kitts & Nevis offers their visitors an authentic Caribbean experience, from the history exhibited at the Brimstone Hill Fortress to the drinks served at the shack-like beach bars. And note that both islands boast spectacular shorelines, so you can’t go wrong with either.”
