Skerritt, who is the Minister of Tourism & International Transport for St. Kitts & Nevis, told colleagues in the CTO that, “I believe that with the right leadership strategy, I am confident that we can achieve our goal of establishing the Caribbean as the world’s premier warm-weather travel destination, with genuinely caring people and world class products”.
The CTO selected Senator Skerritt to serve a two year term, replacing Antigua & Barbuda’s John Maginley. The election was held just ahead of the organization’s Leadership Strategy Conference involving representatives from over 30 countries.
The conference which is being held for the first time is having the participation of leading global tourism officials and experts. They will discuss key issues affecting the tourism sector, said the CTO in a release.
Among the topics to be examined are new market development, security, aviation and destination branding.
In comments made after his election, Skerritt indicated that there is no sector that is more critical to the development of the region, than tourism.
