St. Kitts & Nevis Defeats Antigua & Barbuda in Football

The lone goal was scored by Tishan Hanley in the first half of the game.

This was the second defeat for the Antiguans, who on Wednesday were severely trounced, 4-nil, by Trinidad & Tobago, when they played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, in St. Johns.

According to the local football governing body, Team Antigua & Barbuda is ranked ninety (90) in the FIFA/Coca Cola World Ranking, while St. Kitts- Nevis is ranked one hundred and seventeen (117).

With Saturday night’s victory the ranking for St. Kitts and Nevis is expected to improve slightly as the effort continues to reach the milestone of a ranking lower than 100.

The last time the St. Kitts-Nevis national team played against the Antigua-Barbuda national team was in August 2010, where the outcome was a 1-1 draw.

In their last tournament, the 2014 World Cup Qualifiers, the Sugar Boys played a total of six (6) matches, of which they only lost one (1) to Canada, currently ranked seventy-one (71). Team Antigua & Barbuda advanced to the second round of 2014 World Cup Qualifiers after they finished top of the tables in the first leg.

This was only Antigua’s second match, (the first was against Trinidad last week),  since last November, when they were defeated 2-1 by Haiti, in Port-au-Prince in their CONCACAF Group F Second Round Qualifiers for the 2012 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
