According to a release from the hotel, the week of activities is actually an event that is hosted each year, in appreciation of the hundreds of employees, known as associates, who work in the various departments of the establishment.
The dedication to the staff is said to be part of the hotel’s corporate philosophy that puts people first, including employees, as a critical component of the Marriott’s foundation for success for the past 80 years. Hotel officials indicate that this principle is combined with its strong corporate culture and inspiring core values. These, they say, provide the keys to Marriott’s continued success.
This year, Marriott took the opportunity to say “Thank You” to all its associates and for them fun was the order of the day, as an entire week of activities was planned for 16th -22nd May. All this created in celebration of the successes and achievements of each and every associate.
Each division was given a day that was solely theirs to execute as they saw fit. The only goal was to use that day in being creative while saying “Thank You” to associates.
The week saw a myriad of activities starting with a Pep Rally which commenced with a marching band alerting associates to the start of the rally. The rally was also the stage for the launching of associate slogans with performances from the entire hotel. While this was going on associates were also given the opportunity to win gifts and prizes.
The rally was also the perfect forum, said an official, for engaging everyone in congratulating some of the outstanding Supervisors and Managers. Outstanding Managers were Lorraine Phillip – Tobias, Peter Capeza and Clive Armbrister. Outstanding Supervisors were Anthony Grant, Tishanna Norford and Kevis Taylor.
Most divisions began their day by serving breakfast to associates as they arrived to work, even before they got to their areas. Others chose to deliver breakfast to the associates personally while they were in their individual areas.
Throughout the week there was a BBQ lunch Event, Olympic Games, Boomerang Throwing contest, plus Smoothie give-aways. The Royal Ballroom was transformed into a movie theatre, complete with pop-corn and hotdogs being served during the movies at no expense to the associates.
Every day during lunch there was a special treat that coincided with the day’s theme. The week culminated with a Church Service which saw the Royal Ballroom undergoing another transformation.
“The week was EXCELLENT! I believe that everyone found a day or an event which best suited them,” said Human Resource Director, Shani Juman Yassin.
