This was her third Caribbean crown in two months, setting a new record that would not be easily matched or surpassed.
After picking up victories in the Miss Carival in June then Miss Jaycees pageant last Friday, the Dominican fought really hard Monday night to squeeze a 13 point victory from a tough field of competitors, especially from St. Kitts, St. Croix, St. Lucia, Nevis and Guyana.
It was an extremely competitive pageant that saw different contestants leading along the various stages of the night, but Miss Dominica, though not dominant in all the categories held her own throughout with consistent appearances. She also managed to win the Interview segment.
In the end the real battle emerged between the Miss Dominica and Miss St. Kitts, Zinga Imo, giving the audience a repeat of what transpired in St. Vincent in June when they also ended in the top two positions, with Imo as First Runner up and Shillingford as queen.
Imo too had her dominant moments in Swimsuit and Evening Wear, both of which she won, but fell somewhat in her talent and interview.
At the end of the Talent Appearance however, the focus was on the delegate from St. Croix who delivered a unique and very impactful presentation that was well received by the fair size audience on a rain affected evening.
There were 11 contestants in this year’s pageant, including delegates from St. Lucia, Anguilla, Guyana, Montserrat, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Nevis, St. Kitts, Curacao, Dominican Republic , St. Croix and Dominica.
The final top spots were as follows:
