Stitch in time – “I Am Sugar Mas” will shake up local calypso arena

According to the calypsonian, the idea for “I Am Sugar Mas” came to life, after hearing comments about his decision to compete in the Calypso Monarch competition.

“After hearing my first song, some persons started saying that I am not Calypso enough to stand a chance in the competition. One lady also told me that her girlfriend told her that I would not even make it out of the tent. I found that comment to be very humorous. I had a big laugh when I heard that,” said Stitch In Time.

He explained that he had a few topics to sing about, but he decided to respond to some of the comments and stir up a little bacchanal for Carnival. This new song captures the energy and spirit of St Kitts music in the 1970’s and early 80’s. He said that he wanted to help to inject some old time sweetness in Carnival and give the more mature people an extra reason to participate in the festivities this year. “I Am Sugar Mas” was produced, arranged, recorded and mixed by Jazzique Chiverton of Ball-A- Karn Productions. The words were written by Kevin Donovan and Jazzique.

The following are some random lines taken from “I Am Sugar Mas”: “What’s wrong with some fellas, trying to give me horrors, saying I out a place singing Calypso! …Calypso is the first music I man know…Calypso in me bones, me back and belly!”

Stitch In Time said, though he has his eyes set on the crown, he is here to learn, have as much fun as possible, and to make a meaningful contribution to Carnival. He has been having a great time performing with the Legends Tent. His tent performances have made him one of the most popular calypsonian for this year.
