Cotton, while speaking a professional development day at the Saddlers Secondary School on Tuesday, 4th February, urged educators in attendance to put the focus on the students because they are the important ones and they are the reason that teachers are at the school.
She admonished them saying, “We hope that having spent the day here today you will really go to back to Saddlers Secondary and be the student’s teacher.”
The professional day, which was the fifth of its kind, was organized as part of an effort to enhance the skills of teachers, under the theme, The Students’ Teacher: Productive, Understanding and Technology Driven. She implored them to take their new skills, picked up at the workshop, and have them implemented in their classrooms.
Also addressing the teachers was the Minister of Education, Nigel Carty, who suggested that teachers must agree to continuous development in order to adequately and truly serve the children. This he added would help to pave the way for their academic and social success.
