Students to Distribute Special Mothers Day Cards to Help End Gang Violence

The students have pledged a Gang Free for Mother’s Day, on Sunday 8th May, 2011.

The project, on which they have embarked, came as a result of the Student Council Workshop, hosted by Dr. Bronte Gonsalves, at the Red Cross Building in Nevis, on 12th & 13th April, as a part of an End the Mayhem Campaign, which was a collaborative effort between the Student Councils in St Kitts and Nevis and Operation Future.

It was at that workshop that a suggestion was made to the representatives of the Student Councils, that Mother’s Day cards be distributed to the students, by Operation Future, with the front of the card being blank, allowing the students to decorate with their own art.

Placed at the inside of the cards, however, is a pledge to the mothers of the students that they will stay gang free.Operation-Future-Card-edited

The response from the Student Councils was overwhelming, said an official from Operation Future.

On Tuesday, 3rd May members of Operation Future distributed 5,600 cards to the schools of the Federation at the request of the Student Councils.  The Pledge, written in the card reads as follows:

Dear Mom

I have a bright mind

I have a good heart

I have a strong will

I know I am smart

I pledge today

To stay gang-free

And to uplift my village and country

No colours for me

I am staying gang-free

With all my love!

Happy Mother’s Day 2011

Pictures at both the front and back of the cards will be completed by a school child.
