Not only will it be the start of the Female Calypso Bacchanal, but also the opening of the Sugar Mill (football stadium at Warner Park) where all major carnival events will take place.
With less than 24 hours before the start, the National Carnival committee chairman, Clement O’Garro told MiyVue.com, “Things are progressing well despite a few challenges.”
“I think that things are going very well in terms of the buzz in the public and people are expecting a great Sugar Mas’ this year, and I think we will be able to deliver.
“It’s going to be a packed night for us when we open the Sugar Mill. On that evening, Friday 17th December, starting at 7 pm there will be a short opening ceremony which will include the official opening of the Mill and short remarks by Minister for Culture, Marcela Liburd. Then we’re going to have the National Carnival Female Calypso Bacchanal and Best of the Rest competition,” O’Garro outlined.
The Chairman further indicated that following this year’s hosting of the Sugar Mas’ festivities, a legacy will be left with regards to the transformation of the football stadium at Warner Park into the Sugar Mill.
“This is the first time that we are constructing a stage of this magnitude and from visiting the location, I can say that we will be ready for Friday 17th December. I think that one of the legacies that will be left from Sugar Mas’ 2010/11 is that fact that we can build a stage of that quality here in St. Kitts and Nevis,” the Chairman said.
