Suspect in Custody for Dieppe Bay Residents’ Murder

The victim has been identified as Matthew Joseph Murphy, age 57, a resident of the rural town of Dieppe Bay in St. Kitts. Murphy’s body was found in the canefields last Friday (30th Dec. 2011) with stab wounds on his torso.   Police were called to the scene near Belmont Estate and the Rawlins Plantation at about 11:45 A.M. on Friday to investigate and  Murphy was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has been living and working on the island for the past 10 months.

Police Commissioner CG Walwyn has since contacted the family of the victim in Florida to convey his condolences.
“We deeply regret this terrible incident and we commit to pursue justice to the full extent of the law,” said Commissioner Walwyn.

Det. Inspector Smithen urges “anyone with information of interest to come forward and speak to us at their earliest opportunity or call 869-662-2145. All information will be treated with confidentiality.”
