Totally focused from start to finish, Vidal won the final against Keian 11-6, 11-7, 8-11, 11-7. Both players were very offensive in this match; however Vidal’s style was a steadier attack, and more varied with Keian forced to defend desperately against Vidal’s wide angle forehand shots.
On the other hand, in the female event, Angelissa Freeman clinched her first female title for 2011 with a superb controlled game against Shinnel McCalla. Angelissa’s all-round style of defense and counter-attack proved too strong for Shinnel, winning the finals 11-4, 5-11, 15-13, 11-6.
The anticipated match on the day occurred in the group stages between Vidal Hendrickson and Andre Freeman. One week earlier on April 26th 2011, Vidal lost to Andre Freeman in the semi-finals of the SKNTTA Grand Prix. However, Vidal claimed sweet revenge on Andre defeating him 2-0 with dominate serve and attack plays.
Another surprise on the day was the simultaneous 2- nil defeats by Andre in the group stage, , losing to both Leon Morton and Vidal Hendrickson which disqualified him for the knockout stage of the Labour Day TT Open. Leon Morton showed how game intelligence win matches by forcing Andre in long rallies during the group stage and gaining his points on an incremental basis through steady blocking and fishing. Andre often seemed unable to end the point when he had the initiative and lost valuable points on failed shots and poor service.
The SKNTTA is expected to host three more events for the month of May 2011:
