The field they have chosen is that of the exciting hospitality or service sector, particularly, the restaurant sub-sector. Alexis and Akilah Nisbett, along with Alexis’ sister Carlene have recently established the newest locally owned restaurant in the country, located on the corner of Cayon Street and Rosemary Lane.
According to Mrs. Nisbett, the restaurant, which is known as Taste Kittitian, seeks to provide a true or authentic Kittitian flavour, when it comes to the type of food being offered to the public. She pointed out that they wanted to offer local dishes, prepared in the manner that “We were accustomed to from our parents and grand parents…with a real West Indian flavour”.
Even the internal decor of the restaurant is tastefully done with a Kittitian flavour, using colours of the National Flag and adorning the walls with paintings of famous historic sites and other scenes around the island.
Taste Kittitian will no doubt become the natural choice in St. Kitts, for experiencing authentic dishes from the island, offering a wide menu in the finest setting and ambiance for West Indian dining. Recognizing that they are operating in a world of technology, the owners have included a FREE WI-FI service for customers, to allow them to continue their normal online business.
As one customer put it, “This is the place you go to if you want real local St. Kitts-Nevis food”.
They have therefore created a special menu that includes Cally Bakes-(Johnny Cakes), Fry Fish, Fritters, Bread with Salt fish, Bread with Mackerel, Curried Mutton, Fry Chicken, Pig Feet, Goat Water, Bull Foot Soup, Cook Up, Coconut Dumplings, Sweet Potato and Yams, Breadfruit and Dasheen, Conch Soup, Fish Soup, Jerk Pork, Back -N- Neck, Chicken Wings and many more options.
“What is unique with our pricing system, explained Mr. Nisbett, is that though we offer a full packaged meal, customers are also able to determine just how much they wish to spend because, they can structure and price their own meal packages, given that each item is separately priced for the ease of everyone’s personal budget.”
He said that the restaurant also offers a Take-Out Service, with a daily menu, especially to accommodate those still at work. Taste Kittitian is also available for private lunches and dinners, for the corporate sector or family purposes. The restaurant is equally available for parents who wish to organize private parties for children. They can be reached at 466 2425 for Take Out orders.
They open daily, except Sundays, said Mr. Nisbett, from 7:00am-3:00pm, and on Fridays until 8:00pm.
The restaurant was officially opened on 2nd December, 2011 and is already attracting a strong flow of customer traffic. Mr. Nisbett said he is very encouraged by the support from the public so far and they are looking forward to serving even more clients during the busy Christmas and Carnival Season.
