The TDC Warren Tyson Scholarship Programme, now in its thirtieth (30th) year was named after the first Chairman, Warren Cecil Tyson, and started in 1981.
Mr. Tyson, who was also an advocate for Education throughout the entire Nation, saw his commitment to academic enhancement being recognised, as the scholarship programme funded by TDC being established in his name.
The programme is designed to assist and support students entering Public Secondary Schools across St. Kitts-Nevis. These students are eligible to receive financial assistance throughout their Secondary and Tertiary School tenures. The program also presents the opportunity for the scholarship students to work during their vacations, as well as, on Saturdays.
The Company injects approximately ten thousand dollars (EC$100,000) into the Programme every year, which amounts to an investment of about two and a half million dollars (EC$2.5 million) since its beginning in 1981.
Many of the scholarship recipients currently attending University pursuing further studies or have gain full time employment with the Company. Some even hold Managerial positions in various departments at TDC.
Each year, five (5) students from St. Kitts and two (2) from Nevis are selected, since its inception, approximately 161 students have inducted into the programme.
The 2011 TDC Warren C. Tyson Memorial Scholarships presentation ceremony is being held on Saturday 27th August 2011 at 9:30 a.m. in the TDC Training Room on Fort Street in Basseterre.
