The program was made possible with the assistance of the Alliance Francais in which local teacher Deslyn Richards has gone to Guadeloupe to teach there with a view to strengthening her expertise to maximize teaching upon her return.
In exchange Guadeloupean Teacher, Madame Dorothee St. Prix, is now on a one year “Post –To-Post” attachment at the Charles E. Mills Secondary School where she teaches French.
The Head Mistress of the Charles E. Mills Secondary School, Carla Diamond, admitted that she is very pleased with the attachment to date, adding that Madame St. Prix has brought a certain authenticity to the French program, with her genuine French accent and knowledge of the French culture.
“Ms St. Prix has a number of things planned which will make the learning of French exciting for students. She plans to launch a French Club which will feature French dishes, music and culture, She said.”
Ms. Diamond said she hopes to work towards extending this program with an class exchange in which French students from St. Kitts will attend school in Guadeloupe and vice versa in the near future. She said she also hopes that the attachment will increase the possibility of students to get accepted into French universities by preparing them for DELF examinations (a matriculation requirement for advanced education in French Schools).
