The representative organization of teachers on the island has not only condemned the incident but state that in relation to the act of violence meted out against the teacher at the verchild’s High School, there is never an excuse for the use of violence against teachers and their property.
The St. Kitts Teachers’ Union (SKTU) said it is therefore “deeply concerned for the welfare and safety of our teachers within the school environment.”
The St. Kitts Teachers’ Union is therefore urging the officials in the Ministry of Education and the members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force to work together in ensuring that such barbaric act is dealt with, in a manner that would seek to diffuse any future violence against teachers in our schools.
The SKTU has met with the Ag Police Commissioner and has been assured that this matter is being given the necessary attention and investigations are ongoing.
The St. Kitts Teachers’ Union is working to ensure that the work environment is one which promotes and enhances the well-being of our teachers so that they could contribute meaningfully to the process and value of education. President of the Caribbean Union of Teachers, Mr Marvin Andalla, also lend support to the St Kitts Teachers’ Union describing the action unconscionable. President added that perpetrators must be treated in such a way that it will deter others from such detestable actions.
He further stated that protection must be given to teachers by all concerned and call on the entire public in St Kitts to give support to our teachers.
