After some scintillating performances last Sunday 3rd June, by local athletes, it is now the turn of top athletes from across the Organisation of the Eastern Caribbean States to go head to head in what is expected to be a keenly contested event and one of the last opportunities for regional athletes to qualify for this summer’s Olympic games in London.
The event will take place this Sunday 10th June.
Public Relations Officer of the St. Kitts Nevis Amateur Athletic Association, Evris Huggins, while speaking on local radio on Friday, indicated that 5 countries will be competing from the OECS; namely Antigua and Barbuda, St. Lucia, Grenada St. Vincent and the Grenadines and St. Kitts and Nevis. There will also be a specially invited team out of Trinidad and Tobago.
He added that one can expect the nation’s top athletes competing against other top performers from the OECS. The official said that following last week’s showing, the preparations and readiness of local athletes is going well. So too is the preparation from a technical stand point because the coaching staff has been working very hard with the team.
The meet is being hosted by the SKNAAA while the OECS Athletic Congress is the body that will oversee the event.
The meet is expected to feature top OECS athletes such as Daniel Bailey out of Antigua and Barbuda and also Janelle Redhead of Grenada, along with Kim Collins and others from St. Kitts and Nevis.
