The “Accord” outlines 17 specific initiatives that could deliver significant political, economic and social benefits to all Nevisians.
The four page document which was unveiled in a simple ceremony, hosted at the Red Cross Building in Charlestown, also hopes to create a sense of harmony between St. Kitts and Nevis and to bridge any inequalities which may exist between the Federal Government and the Nevis island Administration.
“The Charlestown Accord” was signed by Timothy Harris leader of The Peoples Labour Party, Shawn Richards of The People’s Action Movement and Vance Amory from the Concerned Citizens Movement.
According to the document, a Team Unity government hopes to give the sister island its fair and equitable share of national resources based on a pro rata population basis.
The Coalition Team Unity said in “The Charlestown Accord” that revenues garnered from the processing fees under the Citizenship by Investment Programme shall be shared “equitably” with their counterparts in the Nevis Island Administration based on a pro rata population basis.
Further, the document disclosed that the coalition agreed that under a Team Unity Government, revenues from activities of the “Sugar Industry Diversification Foundation” or its successor agencies will be shared equitably with the NIA.
To this end, the document stated that the coalition has agreed if elected, “the Nevis Island Administration will be entitled to nominate representatives on the SIDF Board or the board of any successor agency so as to ensure proper representation of all Kittitians and Nevisians”.
The opposition coalition grouping said that fiscal policies between the Federal Government and the Nevis Island Administration will wherever possible be discussed and harmonized in order to ensure that the two islands progress jointly in economic harmony.
