Basseterre, St. Kitts, Monday, 18th October, 2021, (MyVue News.com)-The first female to step forward to run as a candidate for a major political party in the East Basseterre Constituency of St. Kitts, was announced on Monday morning, 18th October, during a special press conference hosted by the co-ruling People’s Action Movement, (PAM).

She is 40-year-old Attorney at Law, Natasha Grey, who is also known as Shanny by her close associates.

Making the announcement was the Political Leader of PAM, and the Deputy Prime Minister of St. Kitts & Nevis, Shawn Richards, who said Grey is the alternative that his party needed to fortify its position in the constituency.

“Natasha Grey is the future of East Basseterre politics,” cited Richards.

Grey’s selection came after the party opened nominations to hopeful candidates in June this year, but according to Richards, Grey emerged as the undisputed person to represent the party in the next elections, due in 2025.

“She now walks into the footprints on paths laid before by PAM women stalwarts like Mary Charles, Constance Mitcham and Jonelle Rawlins…all who ran, in the past, as candidates for the People’s Action Movement,” stated Richards.

Grey who has been a lawyer for over 15 years, has also served in various capacities, including as a member of the Board of Directors of The Cable Company, member of the NEMA District 1 Committee, and presently holds the post of Treasurer of the Caribbean Institute of Women in Leadership, SKN, and is also a member of the Society of Lincolns Inn of Court, England.

Richard praised Grey for her philanthropy, saying she is “someone who knows the struggles of the people of East Basseterre. That’s where she has lived all her life. That’s where she was born, went to school and now works in her law firm.”

The PAM Leader explained, however, that his greatest admiration is for her deep love and commitment to the Newtown community, where she grew up, and the East Basseterre Constituency as a whole.

Grey also received strong endorsements from the two Deputy Political Leaders of the PAM Party, Lindsay Grant and Eugene Hamilton, and party Chairman, Jonel Powell, who also spoke of Grey’s Community-oriented credentials.

“It is this knowledge of the struggles of the ordinary man and woman, that has driven Natasha into the new realm of politics. She is a philanthropist who uses her own finances to help others, including children, as is demonstrated in her Book Club, (which she founded),” stated Richards.
