The event, held at the Ambassador’s residence, was organized and sponsored by Things To Do DC, – “the consummate organization for Washington’s young professional population.” It involved the full participation of the entire Embassy staff who spent the evening discussing the history, culture and tourism product of the twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
The occasion also presented the opportunity for the Embassy to display various examples of the splendid artwork from Caribelle Batik in St. Kitts, that proved to be a popular topic of discussion throughout the evening, even as the guests eagerly collected the brochures and other tourism promotional material. Other highlights of the evening included the Brinley Gold Shipwreck rum tasting, live Caribbean steel pan music, limbo dancing and the ever-popular congo line.
During her welcome remarks, Ambassador Henry-Martin invited the guests to actually visit the country after having experienced a small sample of the warmth and friendliness of the St. Kitts and Nevis people. This invitation was repeated by Tourism Office, Abdullah Skerritt who used the “Fall in Love With St. Kitts & Nevis” promotion to further entice persons to take up the offer. As a result of the evening’s activities, a number of guests have made firm commitments to travel to the destination before the end of the year, while others expressed interest in attending the St. Kitts Music Festival in 2013.
The Embassy of St Kitts and Nevis has been capitalizing on its presence in the US Capital by embarking on projects designed to create a buzz about the destination in diplomatic and professional circles in Washington DC and its environs, which is home to an ideally targeted demographic.
This collaboration between the Embassy and the Washington DC Tourism Office allows for a maximizing of Embassy resources, and fosters ease of access for tourism to reach into fertile areas that would otherwise be difficult to penetrate. Ambassador Henry-Martin stressed that the Embassy will continue to use its presence in Washington DC to leverage the promotion of the country and its exciting potential across several lines.
