The 15th Annual Calypso Competition will see three of St Kitts and Nevis’ top calypsonians singing against six (6) other Caribbean Monarchs in an effort to journey back to the federation with the crown and title of 2011 Leeward Islands Calypso King.
Representing the federation are the newly crowned Culturama King; Hollywood, reigning Sugar Mas’ (National Carnival)Calypso King Pungwa and King Konris who is the reigning Leeward Island Calypso King. King Konris won the title two years straight, in 2009 and 2010 when he out sang his fellow calypsonians with the tunes “Mommy and Daddy” and “Sleeping Tiger”.
The participants in the 2011 Leeward Islands Calypso Competition will perform in this order 1. Anguilla‘s Anthony ‘Dr Splinter’ Bryan singing Scrap Book and Integrity, 2.DEFENDING MONARCH out of St Kitts Konris ‘King Konris’ Maynard with Oil and Water and Unstoppable Force, 3. Montserrat’s Herman ‘Cupid’ Francis with Your Life and Before I die, 4. Antigua’s Keithroy ‘De Bear’ Morson singing How I Long and Melle For sale, 5. BVI’s Luther ‘Luther B’ Butler performing Children without Identity and In de heat of assembly 6. Campbell ‘King Kung Fu- Plen-tae’ Barnes out of the USVI with Bring Back Yesterday and Call for Reparation, 7. Nevis’ Andrew ‘Hollywood’ Nisbett with Hungry and Calypso Jersey, 8.SXM’s Clement ‘Kaiso Brat’ Richards singing It aint Easy and One Family and in the number 9 spot representing St Kitts is David ‘Pungwa’ Patrick with tunes Hang Dem High and Take the Old Clothes off.
Calypso enthusiasts in the Federation are hoping that any of the three representatives from St Kitts and Nevis be crowned the Monarch of tonight’s calypso competition.
