Tourism Week Quiz Described as Educational Experience

“The quizzes have always been extremely interesting over the years: entertaining and educational. The fact is that a lot of us in the audience are educated by the questions that these children have to answer, a lot of the answers we really don’t know,” expressed Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Mr, Tyrone O’Flaherty, in providing remarks at the event’s opening ceremony which was held at the Nevis Cultural Centre, Charlestown.

Also in his remarks, the Permanent Secretary commended the schools, participants and his ministry for the event’s continued success.

Tourism Advisor to the Nevis Island Administration’s Ministry of Tourism, Mr. Alastair Yearwood, also classified the annual tourism week primary schools’ quiz as an “educational experience.”

Mr. Yearwood, who was at the time addressing primary school students during the opening ceremony of the tourism week quiz, said he was impressed with the students’ knowledge of tourism-related issues.

“Specifically last year, I came and I was very laid back. I said I was just going to listen to the quiz but I couldn’t answer any of the questions and you all did,” he said to the students.

In his moment of administering compliments, the tourism advisor applauded the students for displaying punctuality. He added that that practice should be exemplified throughout their lives.

“We live in an age where many of us forget the small yet important things. One of the things that impressed me about all of the children here today is that they were all here by five minutes before 10 o’ clock. Punctuality, I am impressed! Please keep it up. Teach those children in high school and your elders to be as punctual as you were this morning,” Mr. Yearwood said.
