The persistent heavy showers, with high seas and strong winds were just too much for the successful staging of the event and more so the comfort of would be fans, many of whom had to cancel their trip over to Charlestown from sister island St. Kitts.
On Saturday the Eastern Caribbean Forecast was showing that Tropical Storm Ernesto was continuing to move away from the Eastern Caribbean, after causing much problems for the people in the Windward Islands.
Weather officials said that there is expected to be some gradual improvement by tonight. Conditions over St. Kitts and Nevis and the rest of the Leeward Islands, will be much improved by tonight. Though tonight will be partly cloudy, said the weather report, there is little or no shower activity expected.
Therefore, now that the storm effects have been diminished, the conditions are more suitable for the hosting of the calypso contest that will see five former calypso kings do battle in an 8 man line up of contenders for the 2012 calypso crown, now held by King Hollywood.
