Ali, an acting Clerk II with two years’ service, and Maraj, an acting administrative assistant with nine years’ service, are charged with engaging in indecent behaviour by having sexual intercourse yesterday morning in Victoria Square West, Port-of-Spain. They also are each charged with wilfully and obscenely exposing their person on the same day, in the same place.
They pleaded not guilty to the offences. Appealing for his clients to be granted their own bail after there were no objections from Sgt Rawle Ramharrack, Heath said they had never been before the court and had stable family influences. He said Ali’s mother, an assistant registrar at the Elections and Boundaries Commission, and his stepfather, a customs officer, were present in court, as were Maraj’s husband, children and other relatives.
Granting them their own bail of $25,000 to cover both charges, Mc Kenzie adjourned the matter to December 12. The two were arrested around 8 am by police on patrol.
