The Chief Executive Officer of Christophe Harbour, Buddy Darby, pointed out that the occasion was significant in many ways because it represents an evolution, or a next step in the progress of what many are already calling, the most impressive tourism development in the Caribbean.
Darby reminded, “As they say, ‘it takes a village’ and Christophe Harbour’s transformation will take many hands – skilled craftsmen to build, landscapers to maintain, property managers to oversee. And as each unit comes online, our village will grow, new jobs are created, and tourism dollars generated.”
“With each turn of a shovel, driving of a nail, and pouring of foundation, we get closer to realizing the vision of making Christophe Harbour the finest resort community and marina, and St. Kitts the top destination, in the region,” said Darby, to his audience which included the country’s Governor General, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Tourism, along with local business leaders and tourism officials.
Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas praised Christophe Harbour and the developers of the two communities for their perseverance in attaining their dream and for joining the long list of investors who have become involved in Christophe Harbour. “These investment Projects that have brought us here today are especially welcome because they tell a story of an upsurge in investment here in St. Kitts and Nevis.” Dr. Douglas said that they also come in a year that his government predicted would be the year for fiscal recovery and a return to economic growth.
The Windswept Residence Club and the new Ocean Grove Villa enclave together represent nearly $90 million in development and sales and both significant short-term and long-term economic stimulus for St. Kitts.
Windswept Residence Club, nestled in a cozy niche at Sandy Bank Bay, will feature 90 fractional units, and Ocean Grove Villas will encompass up to 50 villas. Both resort enclaves enjoy exquisite views of the harbour, Atlantic Ocean, and Caribbean sunsets.
Tuesday’s ceremony also represents what Christophe Harbour’s Chief Operating Officer Bill Lee, termed a significant step forward with approximately 150 new jobs to be added to the local workforce, upon completion.
Lee said both resort entities will be under the care of the newly launched Christophe Harbour Management Company.
“These two enclaves bring us closer to the realization of the vision of Sandy Bank Bay resort complex, the premier residential resort community within Christophe Harbour,” Lee said, “which will soon be followed by the same in the Christophe Harbour Marina Village.”
Ocean Grove Villas is a great example of successful collaboration between Christophe Harbour, the Government of St. Kitts & Nevis and Apex Capital Partners, a Canadian-based holding that, among other things, provides financial advice to international investors, particularly regarding immigration and real estate.
President of Apex Capital Partners, Nuri Katz, told invitees at the ceremony that “Together, we’ve created a product that will become a significant part of Sandy Bank Bay and St. Kitts itself.”
“We are investing tens of millions of dollars here and anticipate the project to employ more than 150 new employees. Ocean Grove Villas will be home to approximately 47 families and will also be an attractive rental product with a variety of amenities. I believe that we will attract buyers from around the world, and I am counting on many of those buyers coming from my former home Canada,” Katz added.
Construction of the homes will be managed by Bennett Hofford Caribbean Construction, which is also overseeing the construction of the Windswept Residence Club, the 9 villa fractional project. The first villa is already under construction and provided the backdrop for the ceremony.
The great artisans and craftsmen from the Federation working on both Ocean Grove Villas and Windswept Residence Club were also present and have been praised for their high level expertise.
Bennett Hofford Construction Company, Inc., originally a U.S.-based home builder that has since moved operations to St. Kitts, is charged with making these resort enclaves come to life with the help of Kittitian contractors. “Our expertise is luxury, single-family home construction in resort style settings, and we’ve been delighted to find and proudly work alongside skilled local craftsmen,” said Hank Hofford, president of Bennett Hofford Construction Company, Inc. “It’s truly exciting to watch the design visions come alive for both Ocean Grove and Windswept.”
