Unity Government announces first sitting of the National Assembly

In an audio statement released Wednesday afternoon through the St. Kitts and Nevis Information Service (SKNIS), the attorney general (AG) said the governor general already has signed the proclamation.

“Fellow citizens and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis, I am honoured to announce that yesterday, 5th May, I delivered the proclamation for the sitting of Parliament to the Governor General His Excellency Sir Edmund Lawrence. The governor general has signed the proclamation; hence, the first parliamentary session under the Team Unity Government will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2015, at 10 a.m., at Government Headquarters,” the AG stated.

According to Byron, the sitting will provide the Team Unity Government the opportunity to lay the foundation for their “prosperity agenda that will ensure a fair share for all”.

The AG described the pending sitting of the House, as one that will be “historic”, and hinted at a strong legislative approach.

“During this parliamentary session, this government, which was elected by the people on February 16, 2015, will put forth an aggressive legislative agenda that would put our federation on the right track,” Byron said, saying further, “We are excited about the upcoming session and want to reiterate that this government, your government, is working for you.”
