Basseterre, St. Kitts, 7th January, 2019 (MyVueNews.com) – Plans are now in the pipeline to enhance sports facilities to make them attractive to overseas athletes and teams to train in the federation.
According to Minister Shawn Richards, who carries the sports portfolio, said the idea is to fix and improve facilities to ensure that they are ready to host sports activities.
He stated, “The people of Sandy Point, Cayon, Conaree, Tabernacle, St. Peters, Challengers, Boyds, and Half Way Tree can look forward to further upgrades to their existing sporting facilities.”
These facilities will cater to cricket, netball, and football, as the Ministry plans to attract teams and their supporters from the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States of America.
Work will include, among other things, the fixing or addition of bathrooms, sports lighting at some facilities, and further enhancements to the Kim Collins Athletics Stadium.
According to Richards, the continued work on a national sports policy, during 2019, is very important. It is also about our communities, as well, the Minister indicated.
There is no indication, as yet, on the cost it will take to undertake the upgrades.
