Vandals strike Cayon High School, flood staff room

Principal Addison James told that he received a call from the janitor at around 5:45 a.m., Monday, alerting him of “water coming from the staff room”.

Several documents and material that were on the floor were “soaked” and are being placed in the sun to dry. “We are checking to see what could be salvaged. This was an act of vandalism, which was reported to the police,” Principal James said.

It is understood that the watchman is to be interviewed about the incident.

The principal indicated also that he is in the process of getting a formal report to the Ministry of Education.

Police has opened an investigation into the incident, and the principal said he could say no more about the matter.

But according to a social media posting, a teacher at the school described what she saw when she arrived for work.

“We arrived on the job to find the staff room flooded out from where some idiot shoved the fire hose through the window and turned on the pipe full force. Boxes of books and papers, teachers’ desk and chairs, etc., got wet.

“Most are unsalvageable. It’s not ‘gonna’ affect the students, more so the teachers, as we have lost some valuable resources. Some teachers don’t have chairs to sit and do their work ‘cause theirs got soaked.”
