After years of competing without any kind of recognition for their discipline and consistency, two athletes from the St. Kitts & Nevis team this year were successful in placing in the top three of their events. During last week’s 40th CARIFTA games in Montego Bay, J’anthon Sillidy won the bronze medal in the under 17males Javelin competition while Toriano Samuel also took the bronze for the under 17 males high jump.
The athletes have also been praised by officials at the Verchilds High School and coaches of their track team the VHS Vulcans.
They have been congratulated for their hard work and metallic tenacity as they continue to work towards the gold. Hats off to the coach!! Keep working with your few to develop quality athletes that will bring St. Kitts and Nevis great accolades, said an official.
The Verchild’s High School athletic team has been working assiduously with their coach, Lonzo Wilkinson Senior, for a few years now. The team has been plagued by ‘dropouts’ due to other events that have distracted the young athletes.
Although the VHS Vulcans did not win the recent inter-school championship, last week’s performance of the two athletes surely a testimony of the quality (not quantity) of athletes being honed at the VHS. T
The Vulcans won two (2) of the three (3) medals earned by the St. Kitts and Nevis team. The other medal was won by a student of the Gingerland High.
