Police sources in St. Kitts confirmed on Tuesday that Ian Pemberton who was wanted by the Criminal Investigation Department surrendered himself to a police officer, who took him to the Basseterre Police Station on Sunday 29th December 2013, about 7:00 pm.
While police engaged in a nation-wide search for Pemberton they also solicited the support of the national media with the public being sensitized through a wanted poster which was disseminated by the media houses throughout the Federation.
The police had indicated that a warrant of arrest was in existence for Pemberton, for the offence of Battery on Police, Threatening Language and Escaping Lawful Custody, which was committed on 15th December 2013.
The support of the media and public was acknowledged by Commissioner CG Walwyn for their cooperation and assistance in the matter, and he encouraged the community to be very concerned when persons escape from the lawful custody of the police and places of confinement, as these persons may be dangerous.
Walwyn also expressed satisfaction for the way in which the matter ended; without the loss of life or injury.
