Basseterre, St. Kitts, 17th August, 2018 (MyVueNews.com) – All attempts are being made to avoid the interruption of water supply as work continues on the resurfacing of the Island Main Road, said George Gilbert of the Public Works Department.
The road works include the installation of sidewalks, construction of new drainage, as well as the laying of a new foundation for the road in some areas.
Gilbert said vibration from the road works will sometimes break the water pipes.
He explained, “When they are actually excavating, even the vibration from time to time will actually break the pipes. So then we have people from the Water Services Department (WSD), thanks to them for being there, and they will actually mend the pipes as they break. There will be some inconveniences, and we ask you to bear with us in the development of the island main road.”
Gilbert pointed out that there is also daily interaction with The Cable Company, SKELEC and FLOW that have utility lines laid underground.
Gilbert said, “We have to interface with all of these parties because they have their service [lines] underground in the corridors in the sidewalk area, so we have to interface with them on a daily basis so that at least we can do the cutting across the road [and] put sleeves in place so that when they want to have their development, we don’t have to cut the road again.”
Gilbert, who is the project manager, called on motorists to be patient, as the delays are unavoidable.
