According to information received by this media-house, the ship’s name was given as ‘Mv Hakuna Matata’ and it ran aground at 3:00am on Thursday but the coast guard did not receive any information on the mishap until after 6:00am, when officers of the police force made contact with them.
When contacted today for an update, Major Anthony Comrie relayed to MiyVue.com that they are unable to get access to the ship’s location, due to the prevailing weather conditions in the area.
He said one constraint they currently face is the size of the waves in the area, which is limiting them from carrying out the rescue.
“We can’t use a large vessel to get there because it is on a reef currently.”
MiyVue.com understands that there are currently four individuals stuck on the vessel.
“We have not gotten in contact with them because we have tried reaching them on radio and they are not responding, we were able to get close enough to them to realise that they are in good health, but not close enough to stay,” said Major Comrie.
